Getting your player ready...

Broncos coach Pat Bowlen quickly introduced Josh McDaniels on Monday before leaving the podium and allowing Denver’s new head coach extensive time in the spotlight.

After McDaniels spoke for about 45 minutes, Bowlen stood in a corner and explained why he hired the first-time NFL head coach at age 32.

“It’s his education, his presence, background, people he worked for, where he came from — all of that stuff,” Bowlen said. “He’s a football coach.”

Earlier, McDaniels said he would call offensive plays. Bowlen said he looked into hiring a more defensive-minded coach, but thought McDaniels was more well-rounded in all facets of the game.

“I looked at the possibility, but the chance to get this young man was very intriguing to me,” Bowlen said. “I think he’s going to be a great head coach, and I think he’ll fix our defense.”
