A Denver sheriff’s deputy stopped an inmate this morning from potentially committing suicide.

The 45-year-old inmate, whose name was not released, was spotted at about 9 a.m. by a deputy. The inmate had a noose made of shoe strings around his neck in a cell at the Pre-Arraignment Detention Facility.

The noose was tied to a fixed object and the inmate was applying tension to it. He would have passed out if not for the deputy making rounds on the fourth floor.

The inmate, who was in jail for shoplifting and possession of injection devices, was not injured, except for some mild swelling around his neck.
