Pale gowns, one-shoulder and strapless styling, statement jewels and soft up-dos were the red-carpet trends actresses showed off at Sunday’s presentation of the Golden Globe Awards. Here’s a breakdown:
Beyond the pale: White, silver, peach and ivory were favored by everyone from Eva Mendes and Angelina Jolie to Vanessa Hudgens and Demi Moore. The effect was soft and understated.
Shoulder on: Taking a cue from the fashion runways, one-shouldered looks were worn by America Ferrera, Amanda Seyfried, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Cameron Diaz, among others.
Those who didn’t go the one-shoulder route went strapless, including Kate Winslet, Blake Lively, Kate Beckinsale and Miley Cyrus.
Gem dandies: Attention-grabbing necklaces sparkled on Beyonce and Mendes, while such actresses as Kate Beckinsale and Drew Barrymore chose dangling earrings.
Coiffed: The prettiest hairstyles were soft and off the neck, as worn by Winslet and Ferrera, or long and softly curled (Cyrus and Moore). Actress most in need of a stylist: Cameron Diaz.
Groomed: The guys kept it classic for the most part, letting their facial hair give them a distinctive look. Brad Pitt sported a mustache, goatee and aviators along with what said was a Tom Ford tux, Jeremy Piven and Steve Carell wore the perfect three-day stubble and Sting showed off a full beard. Actor most in need of a barber: Mickey Rourke.
