GREELEY, Colo.—Firefighters shut down a Greeley ice rink after carbon monoxide was detected on two days, including one where levels were 10 times the maximum safe level during a hockey tournament.

Union Colony Fire/Rescue Authority Battalion Chief David Einspahr says the Mountain States Ice Arena won’t be allowed to reopen until the source of the carbon monoxide is found.

Carbon monoxide levels inside the building were recorded at 381 parts per million Saturday, well above the 35 ppm maximum safe level. About 16 Arvada children playing in a hockey tournament were treated for carbon monoxide exposure.

Einspahr says carbon monoxide detectors were installed Sunday and a couple hours later they went off. Carbon monoxide levels didn’t exceed 100 parts per million that day.
