OMAHA, Neb.—Tom Osborne and Joe Paterno are waxing about the sport they love, at the American Football Coaches Association convention in Nashville, Tenn.
The coaching icons from Nebraska and Penn State were sharing the stage Monday during the “Master Coach” session.
The 71-year-old Osborne retired from coaching after the 1997 season and is now the Nebraska athletic director. The 82-year-old Paterno just finished his 43rd season as Penn State’s head coach and recently signed a three-year contract extension.
Osborne matched wits with Paterno five times, 1979-83, winning three times.
In 1994, Nebraska and Penn State both went undefeated, but Osborne’s Huskers beat the Nittany Lions for the national championship in both major polls.
