Snowboard icon Shaun White continued his winning ways at the second stop of the new Winter Dew Tour, retaining his overall lead in the season- long points standings with a first-place finish in the superpipe and a second place in slopestyle this past weekend at Mount Snow in Vermont. The 2006 Olympic gold medalist in superpipe swapped disciplines for the same results last month in Breckenridge.
Breck rider Steve Fisher found his feet in Vermont, finishing second in the superpipe to set the stage for a battle between the event’s only two- time gold medalists at the Winter X Games in Aspen beginning Jan. 22.
“Second place is great, and it definitely made my trip to Vermont that much better,” Fisher said. “Going into the X Games with a little bit of momentum is always good.”
Kelly Clark, 2002 Olympic women’s gold medalist, won the women’s title on her home hill. She was followed by 2006 Olympic gold medalist Hannah Teter and fellow Vermonter Ellery Hollingsworth.
Kevin Pearce of Norwich, Vt., finished third in the men’s snowboard superpipe, while Colorado riders Matt Ladley of Steamboat and Dylan Bidez of Minturn were seventh and ninth, respectively.
White was second in slopestyle to Torstein Horgmo of Norway, and Breck’s Eric Willett was fifth.
Simon Dumont of Bethel, Maine, claimed first place in the superpipe over Canadian Justin Dorey and Tanner Hall of Montana. Breckenridge skiers Duncan Adams and Colby West had strong showings in sixth and seventh place, respectively, and Taylor Seaton of Avon finished 10th.
Jacobellis rolls.
Lindsey Jacobellis of Stratton, Vt., earned her 15th career World Cup snowboardcross victory and the first of the season Sunday, one day after finishing third in Bad Gastein, Austria.
