DENVER—Authorities say a rail worker has lost both legs below the knee after getting pinned by a section of track that was being loaded onto a rail car near Pueblo.

Pueblo County Sheriff’s Deputy Laurie Kilpatrick says the victim, 45-year-old David Clark, was flown by helicopter to St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo, where he was in stable condition.

The accident happened shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday at Chemetron-Railway Products Inc. just outside Pueblo.

Kilpatrick says Clark, a Chemetron employee, was loading track onto rail cars and tying them down. She says he was reaching for a box of bolts when a section of track being placed on one of the cars pinned his legs.

A co-worker notified others, and they called 911.
