COLLBRAN, Colo.—The Colorado Division of Wildlife has issued a summons to the owner of a western Colorado hunting ranch for allegedly illegally shipping in wild hogs.
Little Creek ranch owner Alan Baier faces several misdemeanors, including unlawful possession of a prohibited species. The penalties carry fines of nearly $17,000 and the possible suspension of hunting and fishing privileges.
State officials quarantined the ranch in Collbran in November after feral hogs being shipped in and on the ranch tested positive for pseudorabies, a contagious virus. More than 70 hogs were killed.
Federal and state officials inspected the ranch Christmas Eve and lifted the quarantine.
The state bans possession of feral pigs in most cases, but Little Creek was allowed to have some because it was operating before the ban was imposed.
