COLORADO SPRINGS — Authorities have identified the driver who killed one person in a hit and run on Sunday and later died in another accident after fleeing the scene of the initial crash.
The motorist was 21-year-old Juan A. Castillo-Cruz of Colorado Springs.
Authorities say he ran a stop sign at the intersection of Colorado 94 and Peyton Highway in El Paso County. He left that scene in a sport utility vehicle of someone who had stopped to render aid.
Castillo-Cruz rolled that vehicle a short time later.
Raul Cardoza died in the first crash, and his wife and two children were injured.
Authorities believe Castillo-Cruz may have been drinking, but toxicology results are still pending.
