AURORA — Police were looking for four men who forced their way into an Aurora apartment this afternoon and shot and killed two men.
The names of the two victims were not released. They were rushed to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, said Aurora police spokesman Bob Friel.
About 2:20 p.m., two men got into a fight in a third-floor apartment at Ridge Hill Apartment Homes in the 14100 block of East Kentucky Place. Both men were injured, Friel said, and one left after the fight.
That man returned about an hour later with three other men who were armed with guns. They forced their way into the apartment and shot the man who had gotten into the fight as well as another man.
The attackers left in a small white car and had not been caught as of Sunday night, Friel said. Police are asking that anyone with information call 303-739-6710.
“We have armed gunmen that are still on the loose,” Friel said.
A resident of the complex, who would give only his first name of Victor, said he was on his balcony having a cigarette when he heard screams coming from the apartment where the men were shot.
“How could you do that? I can’t believe you did that?” he said he heard a woman shout, presumably after the shooting.
Police did not say what the motive might have been for the shooting or what caused the original fight.
“Detectives have what they are referring to as good leads in the case,” Friel said.
Celerino Hernandez, who lives in the apartment complex, said police are frequent visitors. Although he said he hasn’t heard of any shootings, there are break-ins and auto thefts.
He said he is considering moving somewhere else.
“There are a lot of police here,” Hernandez said. “I don’t feel safe here anymore.”
