Northglenn police arrested a man Monday who they said taped his dog’s mouth shut to stop it from barking.

After someone reported to police that a yellow dog had duct tape around its muzzle, officers went to 10500 Marion St. They found the dog, named Jay, and arrested Michael Dennis Reust, 38, on suspicion of animal cruelty.

“Mr. Reust said the dog would not stop barking, so he placed the tape on the dog’s muzzle,” according to a police statement.

Jay is in good condition and has been released from the Veterinary Hospital and transferred to the Adams County Animal Shelter. Reust has turned over ownership of the dog to the shelter.
