DENVER—A Saudi Arabian citizen who blamed anti-Muslim sentiment for accusations that he kept his housekeeper a virtual slave has lost his bid to have his conviction overturned.
The Colorado Court of Appeals on Thursday upheld Homaidan Al-Turki’s conviction on charges of false imprisonment, conspiracy, criminal extortion, theft and unlawful sexual contact.
Al-Turki, who has lived in the U.S. since 1995, was accused of sexually abusing the Indonesian housekeeper and paying her less than $2 per day.
He was convicted and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison in August of 2006.
The appeals court ruled the trial court was correct in setting certain limits during jury selection and that there was enough evidence to support the jury’s findings.
