DENVER—Nate Rohnert scored 22 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds to lead Denver to a 78-74 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday night.

Rob Lewis, Brian Stafford and Andrew Hooper added 16 points apiece for the Pioneers (8-11, 3-5 Sun Belt).

Western Kentucky (13-7, 7-2) went on a 9-3 run over a span of about a minute and a half to take its largest lead of the game, 25-16, with 6:48 remaining in the first half. But Denver rallied and trailed only 32-30 at the break.

The Pioneers led by nine points with 2:19 remaining before the Hilltoppers went on a 9-2 run over the next minute to come to within 73-71. DU’s Stafford hit Rohnert for a layup with 13 seconds remaining, and Lewis sealed the win with a pair of free throws with three seconds to play.

Steffphon Pettigrew led the Hilltoppers with 20 points.
