GRAND JUNCTION — A man who park officials say was trying to kill himself when he drove off a cliff in Colorado National Monument was taken into custody Saturday by Mesa County sheriff’s deputies after being released from the hospital.
Daniel John Lyons, 34, of Clifton is accused of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl. The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported Friday that a judge had signed a warrant Thursday accusing Lyons of felonies including sexual assault on a child.
Lyons spoke with investigators Wednesday. Later that day, he was rescued after calling 911 on his cellphone to report he had driven off the monument but survived after his van got stuck on a rock outcropping.
