Is it the water or the weather?
Three of Denver’s morning meteorologists are preparing to have little ones — Lisa Hidalgo at KMGH- Channel 7, Angie Austin at KWGN- Channel 2 and Crystal Egger at KDVR-Channel 31.
Hidalgo, who is expecting in mid-February, says, “I try to face the camera dead on — because the second I turn left I wipe out the central U.S. If I get any bigger I’ll start taking out Missouri.”
Hidalgo says she’s been feeling well, but the past few weeks have left her exhausted.
All the women are friends and e-mail back and forth about their condition, challenges and fan mail.
Austin is the vet in the group, this being her third baby in as many years. “They assume I know what I’m doing,” she sighs.
Her baby girl is due in March — on St. Patrick’s Day. She notes at this point in her pregnancy, that when she turns to the map of Colorado, she pretty much blocks out the high country.
“We give each other moral support — if we had a tough morning or get a mean e-mail,” Austin says. “One e-mail asked if I was eating too many cookies or just pregnant again. I wrote back, ‘Probably both.’ ”
One viewer asked Hidalgo whether she was having twins.
Egger is just starting her fourth month. “Getting up at 2:30 in the morning is never fun. And our show is five hours. In the last two hours, I can really hit the wall.”
Egger is due Aug. 2, so she is hardly showing but plans to share the news on the air Monday. And she’s anxiously waiting for her “belly to pop out.” She figures Leadville will be the first city to concede to her baby.
Ernie & Ellen.
Ernie Bjorkman, the deposed Channel 2 anchor, continues his post-TV heyday. It started with a front page New York Times story, then an interview on ABC’s “2 0/20” with Elizabeth Vargas. Now he’s going to be on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” He flies to L.A. on Monday, tapes it Tuesday, and it’ll air Wednesday (3 p.m. on KUSA-Channel 9).
“Getting fired has landed me more publicity than anything I’ve ever done in 26 years in Denver,” he says.
Love for sale.
I don’t understand it, but Kris Kenny says men and women are lining up for her new VIP matchmaking service. The parent company, Kris Kenny Connections, is in the business of fixing up couples who paid to join the service. The VIP edition charges men $5,000 for 10 introductions. Women who wish to be in the database pay $150 for a “administrative/background check.”
She just hosted a gathering of women at Second Home in Denver and will gather even more at the St. Julien in Boulder, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Go figure.
