DENVER—National Hirschfeld LLC has filed a petition for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, but the 102-year-old Denver printing company says it still plans to close.

The company said earlier this month that it would close Jan. 30 after suffering from the economic downturn and a lack of financing. It laid off all 250 of its employees.

Chairman Barry Hirschfeld said Friday that the company still plans to close but that the bankruptcy filing will offer it more time to sell its assets.
