LITTLETON — An ice fisherman was rescued by a park ranger and bystanders after falling through the ice at Chatfield Reservoir on Sunday evening.

The unidentified man was transported to Littleton Adventist Hospital after spending 20 to 30 minutes in icy waters, said a Littleton Fire Rescue spokesman.

“He was a awake and talking — he was just really cold,” said spokesman Ray Rahne.

Rahne said the man ventured 25 feet out from shore and fell through the ice about 4:45 p.m.

“He was lucky enough that a jogger was running by,” Rahne said.

A Chatfield Park ranger threw the man a rope and, with the help of several bystanders, pulled the man to safety.

“He ought to buy a lotto ticket because he was really lucky,” Rahne said.
