GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo.—The Denver suburb of Greenwood Village has approved a plan to shoot and kill coyotes wandering the city’s parks, greenbelts and watersheds.
The plan approved in special session Thursday follows 194 coyote sightings in the city since Jan. 1, 2008, and an attack on a 14-year-old boy in December.
A contractor will be paid $60 an hour or $200 a day to kill coyotes. A plan is also in the works to set leg traps.
Colorado’s Division of Wildlife officials track and kill coyotes that attack humans, but not pets. A pair of coyotes attacked a woman in Broomfield northwest of Denver last month, but her Labrador retriever chased them off.
