A woman who became lost while snowmobiling in Eagle County is in a Denver hospital after rescuers found her in a ravine 4 miles from the top of Vail Pass.

Rescuers located Elaine Grosso, 48, of Plant City, Fla., just before 8 p.m. Saturday and a helicopter took her to St. Anthony Central Hospital.

Grosso and her husband, John, rented snowmobiles on Saturday in Frisco and were riding together on Shrine Pass Road near Turkey Creek Road.

John Grosso notified Summit Snowmobile that he could not locate his wife at about 2 p.m. The company sent employees to help him search for his wife.

After 2-1/2 hours of fruitless searching, an employee from Summit Snowmobiles called 911.

Vail Mountain Rescue Group sent a two-member team up Shrine Pass from the bottom of Red Cliff. Summit County Rescue Group assisted by sending six, two-member teams in from the top of Vail Pass.

High-angle rescue equipment was used in this rescue mission.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office was also involved in the rescue operation.
