VAIL — A 48-year-old Florida woman survived six hours in a ravine near Vail Pass after a snowmobiling mishap.

Elaine Grosso of Plant City, Fla,, was reported missing by her husband at about 2 p.m. Saturday. Eagle County sheriff’s officials say both were riding rented snowmobiles on Shrine Pass Road when John Grosso noticed his wife was missing.

The snowmobile rental company sent employees to help search for Grosso and notified authorities after 2 1/2 hours.

Rescuers from surrounding law enforcement agencies found Grosso at about 8 p.m. and she was airlifted about 1 1/2 hours later. She was flown to St. Anthony’s Central Hospital in Denver where her condition was not disclosed. A hospital spokeswoman did not immediately return a message.
