A 16-year-old who is accused of attacking other women in a neighborhood near Cherry Creek Reservoir was charged today with raping a 40-year-old woman and beating her with a baseball bat last month.
Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey charged Shakiel Madden-Vaughn with attempted first-degree murder, sexual assault, first-degree assault and aggravated robbery. He is being charged as an adult.
Police said Madden-Vaughn followed the woman from a light-rail station, attacking her in the 9000 block of East Mansfield Avenue and stealing her purse.
Madden-Vaughn already faced charges of molesting a 12-year-old girl and hitting a 69-year-old woman in the head with a brick the week before the woman was raped, beaten and robbed in the same area.
He is being held without bail in the Denver County Jail.
