OMAHA, Neb.—A longtime veterinarian at Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha is expected to be fine after a Malaysian tiger bit him on the right forearm.

Doug Armstrong was examining the 20-month-old tiger Wednesday in preparation for the animal’s move to the zoo in Wichita, Kan.

The bite occurred as the 200-pound tiger was coming out of sedation. Zoo director Lee Simmons said the tiger reflexively bit Armstrong when the vet brushed the tiger’s whiskers.

Simmons says Armstrong’s arm probably would be sore for a few days.

Simmons says the zoo would review its procedures to make sure such an accident doesn’t happen again.
