GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A judge has increased the bond for a man accused of using a pocket knife to stab a man who was found dead less than a week later.
A judge Thursday raised the bond for 58-year-old Mack Sadler to $60,000 from $25,000. He’s being held in the Mesa County jail on suspicion of first-degree assault in the stabbing of 32-year-old Douglas Bennett.
Sadler also faces a sentencing-enhancing count of crime of violence.
Sheriff’s officials say Bennett was stabbed outside Sadler’s home on Jan. 29. An arrest affidavit indicates Sadler told deputies the stabbing was an act of self defense.
Bennett was found dead at his home Feb. 3. The Mesa County coroner’s office is still trying to determine the cause of death.
Sadler is due back in court Feb. 24.
