SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California lawmakers are trying to round up enough support for a plan to patch the state’s $42 billion budget deficit.

Votes were expected over the weekend in the Assembly and Senate, coming more than three months after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger called the first of three special sessions to address the crisis.

The compromise called for just over $14 billion in tax increases, $15 billion in spending cuts and more than $11 billion in borrowing. It also gives businesses tax credits and relaxes environmental rules for road projects.
