An apartment fire also damaged a hallway and displaced occupants of about 12 other apartments in the 10000 block of East Dartmouth Avenue in Denver this afternoon.
The cause of the late-afternoon blaze is still under investigation, but it began in one apartment and billowed out into a hallway when the residents escaped, said Assistant Fire Chief Steve Garrod.
The damage to the apartment was mostly smoke-related, but the other apartments would remain evacuated for a few more hours because electricity to the building is currently cut off, Garrod said.
