MILLSTONE TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A hearing on traffic charges filed against Nuggets guard J.R. Smith in connection with a 2007 fatal accident of a passenger is to continue March 17, but not before Smith was found guilty Tuesday at Municipal Court and fined $1,000 for failing to appear at a previous pretrial hearing Jan. 13.

Smith is required at every court appearance unless excused by the court. He faces charges of improper passing, failure to stop, speeding (67-plus mph in a 35 mph area), reckless driving and failure to wear a seat belt in the June 9, 2007, accident.
