COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Springs police say a parent who punched a youth basketball game referee who made a call he didn’t like faces a charge of third-degree assault.
Police say 48-year-old Steven Vaughn was upset over a call in a YMCA league basketball game Saturday at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School. Police say Vaughn went on the floor and punched 42-year-old referee Alvin Miller in the face several times before he was told to leave.
Vaughn was arrested after a shouting match in the parking lot.
Officers say Miller didn’t need medical treatment.
A phone number for Vaughn rang unanswered Sunday.
