Two Denver-metro men were discovered early this afternoon by searchers walking near the Whiskey Park area, authorities say.
Mikel Mewbourn, 38, of Aurora and Terry Collins, 48, of Lakewood set up a shelter Friday night after their snowmobiles were stuck in ice, according to a news release by Grand County Sheriff’s Office.
The last time anyone heard from the two, who had planned a one-day ride, was 8 a.m. Friday when they called a friend by a cellphone from the Idle Glen parking lot, according to Sheriff Rodney Johnson.
At 11:18 p.m. an acquaintance called Grand County dispatchers to report the two were missing, Johnson said.
The Idle Glen parking lot is one of the main access points of more than 100 miles of snowmobile trails near Grand Lake, he said.
Searchers already had been looking for the men for three hours, Johnson said.
