A 28-year-old woman has been charged with causing a toddler’s death after she allegedly drove into another car while on the wrong side of the road Saturday.

Shenell Phillips is charged with child abuse resulting in death, two counts of vehicular homicide, four counts of vehicular assault and two counts of DUI.

Antonia Gutierrez, 59, and Juanita Dominguez, 59, who were in the car that Phillips hit, also were injured. They are in fair condition at Denver Health Medical Center.

A Chevrolet Classic also was hit. The woman inside that car wasn’t hurt.

The collision happened at about 2:55 a.m. Saturday along East 56th Avenue near Tower Road.

Phillips was at the wheel of a Toyota Camry driving in the wrong lane on eastbound 56th Avenue when she ran head-on into a Mercury Sable, according to the Denver district attorney’s office.

The 17-month-old daughter of a friend of Phillips was riding in the Camry with her when the accident happened.

The child died as a result of her injuries.

Phillips has an extensive record that includes assault, disorderly conduct, failure to appear, forgery, theft over $15,000, menacing with a deadly weapon, burglary and wrongs to minors.

She remains in custody in the Denver County Jail; her bail has been set at $250,000.
