COLORADO SPRINGS — The Army said Wednesday that a wildfire burning more than 10 square miles on Fort Carson may have been sparked by a training explosion.
Fort spokeswoman Karen Connelly said Wednesday that the detonation of less than a quarter stick of the military explosive C-4 in a rock quarry may have caused the fire. The blaze started Tuesday in a training area on the base south of Colorado Springs.
It was about 70 percent contained Wednesday. Revised figures estimated it had burned 6,330 acres. No structures had been destroyed, and no injuries were reported.
