DES MOINES, Iowa—Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobson has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year.
The conference announced Thursday that Jacobson received 34 out of a possible 40 first-place votes, easily beating Creighton’s Dana Altman for the honor.
Jacobson, in his third season at Northern Iowa, led the Panthers (20-10, 14-4) to a share of their first Valley title and the top seed in this weekend’s conference tournament.
Jacobson joins Eldon Miller (1997) as the only Northern Iowa coaches to win the award.
The Panthers open tournament play Friday with a quarterfinals matchup against either Drake or Indiana State.
