GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The victim of a fatal crash between a dump truck and a sport utility vehicle has been identified as a Grand Junction businessman.
Authorities say 49-year-old Quentin O. Spendrup was not wearing his seat belt when the driver of a dump truck ran a stop sign and slammed into his SUV at about 5:15 p.m. Thursday. Spendrup was ejected and died at the scene.
The dump truck driver, 45-year-old Ramon Mendoza of Silt, suffered minor injuries. A passenger in the dump truck was able to walk away from the crash.
Spendrup was the founder of SMJ Inc., a fan designer and manufacturer.
Grand Junction police spokeswoman Kate Porras says authorities are still trying to determine what, if any, charges to file in the case.
