Coloradans will get the truth in upper classifications of girls basketball beginning today at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

And there will be no deception — the reigning powers as well as serious challengers will be at the Coors Events Center as the tournament enters its ultimate rounds.

“This is when it actually starts and it will be fun,” Regis coach Carl Mattei said.

The object in Class 5A is to unseat Highlands Ranch (24-2), featuring guard Meagan Fulps and forward Jenessa Burke. The Falcons’ final four foe is Monarch (20-6), and the Coyotes have been strong down the stretch of the season. On the opposite side, it’s Horizon (25-1) against Regis (22-4), which is in its fifth consecutive final four and 97-12 over four seasons.

In 4A, Broomfield (26-0) has been brilliant with consecutive championships and a 38-game winning streak. Next up: Lauren Benshoof and Fossil Ridge (21-5), which is in its first final four. The day opens at 4 p.m. with Montrose (24-2) against Mullen (22-4), which is in pursuit of its fourth championship this decade, most recently in 2006.
