BOULDER, Colo.—A Broomfield teenager has been cited for careless driving resulting in injury after she allegedly crashed head-on into a school bus, injuring three children and herself.

Erie police Lt. Lee Mathis says the 17-year-old driver remains hospitalized. Her name and condition haven’t been released.

The St. Vrain Valley School District bus carrying 37 students was en route to Erie’s Black Rock Elementary School just before 9 a.m. Tuesday when a Toyota Corolla struck the front of the bus. Officials initially said two children were hurt, but later raised that number to three.

The students were released from the hospital and returned to class by early afternoon.

Mathis says the Toyota driver told the investigating officer the crash occurred after she hit some ice.
