HAMPSHIRE, Ill. — Farmer Carol Burnidge has posted a sign that promises help for the many among us who are stressed out of our minds: “Hold a Baby Lamb! $4.”
With the economy in a dive and Easter looming, who could resist such an approach?
“We thought about putting ‘Feel a baby lamb’ or ‘Touch a baby lamb,’ but then decided, no, you have to hold a baby lamb,” Burnidge said.
The marketing strategy mainly aims at children, but Burnidge said it is surprising to see how many parents end up cuddling a lamb.
“We’ll find their moms in here holding a lamb in their arms until it falls asleep,” she said.
The Burnidges’ Pioneer Farm, which has been welcoming visitors for several years, sees lambs born about every two weeks, so the supply is plentiful.
The farm is open Fridays and Saturdays.
And for those who can’t look at lamb without thinking about mint jelly, the farm also has an abundant supply of baby chicks available for holding.
