PUEBLO — A day-long search ended Wednesday afternoon when a suspect in a sexual assault in Fremont County was shot and killed by Pueblo police officers. David Wiggs, 54, was wanted on charges of sexual assault on a child in Florence.
Pueblo officers learned that Wiggs was staying in a tent along Fountain Creek and had made threats to kill himself and others. He also was believed to be armed and said he wouldn’t be taken alive.
His car was found Wednesday afternoon in a parking lot near the creek. Wiggs was confronted and shot by two police officers on the East Fourth Street Bridge over Fountain Creek about 3:30 p.m.
Authorities began hunting for Wiggs after family members told police he had threatened to commit suicide and had said he was willing to fight officers.
