AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.—An Air Force Academy cadet accused of sexually assaulting a fellow cadet has been acquitted of rape but convicted of underage drinking.
The academy says Sean Callahan was found guilty of one charge of dereliction of duty for underage drinking during a general court-martial Thursday.
A panel of officers found him not guilty on two other charges: rape and unlawful entry of the alleged victim’s dormitory room. Sentencing is scheduled for Friday.
Callahan was accused of getting drunk, entering a fellow cadet’s room while she slept and raping her in August 2007.
Authorities didn’t investigate the case until May 2008 when they heard rumors about it. The woman hadn’t talked to authorities until then.
In October, the woman testified that she didn’t want Callahan prosecuted and called him a “nice guy.”
