DENVER—Figures from the Colorado Department of Revenue show tax receipts in February were lower than state forecasters expected.
Gross general fund tax receipts for the month were about $305 million, or about 19 percent below what the Office of State Planning and Budgeting had forecast in December. The total was also about 17 percent below what was collected in February 2008.
Sales tax collections were almost $136 million in February, or about 11 percent off what was forecast and about 16 percent below what was collected in February 2008.
For the fiscal year through February, total tax receipts were almost $4.7 billion, down 4.6 percent from the same period last year, according to data provided Friday. The fiscal year ends June 30.
