ST. CHARLES, Mo.—Kelsey Woodard scored 13 points and Kelsey Crites had 10 rebounds as Creighton defeated Wichita State 49-41 in one of the lowest-scoring games in Missouri Valley tournament history.
Creighton (20-10) sank just under 31 percent of its field-goal attempts, but better than Wichita State’s 27-percent performance.
Wichita State (13-18) was led by Daria Frazier with 14 points and Marcy Sudbeck had 12. Frazier scored the first basket of the second half to pull the Shockers to within 28-26, but they didn’t sink another field goal until Frazier’s short jumper with 10:38 left. Wichita State managed just two points between baskets and the Blue Jays took advantage by pulling away with a 11-2 run.
The 90 points is second lowest to the 87 scored in Drake’s 47-41 victory over Evansville in 2008.
Creighton went on a 11-4 run at the end of the first half to grab a 28-24 lead at the break.
