Birds of a feather. Today and Sunday. Each year at this time, tens of thousands of visitors descend on Monte Vista. And that’s just the sandhill cranes. The majestic birds stop near the town on their annual journey north. So the Monte Vista Crane Festival is a three-day crane-centric event that includes sunrise bird-watching, a craft fair, nature tours and kids activities. 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Starting each day just when the fun on the hill is winding down, the event features hands-on activities, s’mores and tubing, plus a free preview of “Monsters vs. Aliens” and a sweet rock show by Princess Katie and Racer Steve. Today’s Family Ski Challenge is a race for all skill levels. The Cookie Corner adjacent to the ice rink in Beaver Creek Village is the festival hub. Other events are at the Park Hyatt (136 E.
