DENVER—Authorities say the man killed by Commerce City police following an alleged car chase and robbery was 23-year-old Peter Ramierez.
Adams County coroner Jim Hibbard says an autopsy is planned.
Ramierez and another man, whose name wasn’t released, were accused of holding up a man at gunpoint after crashing into his vehicle Thursday afternoon.
Two officers responded, and a car chase ensured. It ended at an intersection a short time later after the suspects jumped a curb, ran over a street sign and lost a wheel.
Ramierez and the other suspect then fled on foot. The officers followed, and shots were fired. Commerce City police Lt. Chuck Saunier says it’s too early to know if the suspects fired at the officers.
Both suspects were wounded, and Ramierez later died at an area hospital. Details on the other man’s injuries were not available.
