BOULDER, Colo.—Mary Bokenkamp scored 18 points, including 15 in the second half, and Regis won its first state girls basketball championship with a 44-37 victory over Monarch in the Class 5A final Friday night at the Coors Events Center.

Regis (24-4), a No. 1 seed from Aurora, finally won a state crown after appearing in the title game three of the last four seasons.

The Raiders also own a 100-11 record during that span.

The game was much closer than the 83-51 drubbing Regis handed second-seeded Monarch (21-7) earlier in the season.

Leading 41-35 with 1:25 to play, Bokenkamp hit her third 3-pointer of the second half, extending the Raiders lead to 44-35.

Monarch, from Louisville, could come no closer than 7 points (44-37) the rest of the way.

Alex Evans and freshman Alexus Johnson led the Coyotes with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The Raiders, which led 19-14 at the break, outshot Monarch 40 percent to 27 percent from the field.

Regis also virtually shut down the Coyotes perimeter game, allowing just 3 of 14 3-point attempts.

Monarch, from Louisville, saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end, but the Coyotes can be proud of their state tournament run, which included an improbable victory over three-time defending 5A champ Highlands Ranch on Wednesday night.
