Three men have been arrested in Denver for allegedly charging people thousands of dollars in exchange for finding jobs that didn’t exist or never came to fruition.
Authorities say the company, Careers for Life, was posting job openings and calling people off of the Craigslist website, promising interviews and work in exchange for money.
Colorado law prohibits employment agencies or individuals from charging a fee upfront to find work.
Denver investigators arrested Jacob Messier, 27; Jeffrey Brown, 26; and Matthew Bowman, 26, this month on suspicion of theft and conspiracy to commit theft.
One man, Jamee Young, 32, is still at large.
Eleven people were named as victims in the arrest warrant. A Fort Lupton man, 49-year-old John Kinnamon, said Monday he was happy, “and I’ll be happier when they’re convicted.”
When Careers for Life cold-called Kinnamon last May and offered to find him a job, he put $2,500 on his credit card because, he says, he was desperate. Careers for Life never found him work.
He has since found a job on his own as a maintenance worker in Thornton.
