A Denver police officer caught on videotape slamming a man’s face into the ground and breaking his teeth say he is not guilty of assault.
Officer Michael Cordova made an appearance in court this morning to fight the charges against him.
The judge postponed the case a month because Cordova and his attorney want more time to analyze the videotape which contradicts what Cordova claims happened during an arrest last year.
As Cordova left the courtroom Tuesday he said only, “No comment.”
The videotape in question was shot by a sports producer outside of Coors Field on the opening day of the Rockies’ season last year.
The tape shows Cordova punching and kicking an unarmed bicyclist during an arrest. Once the man is on the ground, the tape shows Cordova breaking the man’s teeth in a head slam.
Before the videotape surfaced, Cordova testified under oath that the victim was vigorously fighting back and denied knowing how his teeth were broken.
