The city and county of Denver officially flipped the switch Wednesday on a 300-kilowatt solar-power system on the roof of the Colorado Convention Center.

The array of 1,310 photovoltaic modules, operational since November, covers 30,000 square feet and generates enough electricity to power the parking garages, which are open and lighted 24 hours a day. The project was built through a partnership with Greenprint Denver, MMA Renewable Ventures, Oak Leaf Energy Partners, Namaste Solar, SunPower Corp. and Xcel Energy.

MMA Renewable Ventures owns and operates the system, which was financed with Oak Leaf Energy Partners.
