DENVER—The Jefferson County sheriff’s office has released the name of a 47-year-old man who fell to his death while taking photographs along Lookout Mountain Road west of Denver.

He was Michael Rubbelke of the Denver suburb of Wheat Ridge.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacki Kelley says Rubbelke was with was with family friends and his son when he stepped across a guardrail to take a photograph and lost his footing Monday afternoon.

She says he fell 50 or 60 feet and died at the scene.

Kelley says it was it extremely windy at the time, and the ground on the other side of the guardrail was unsteady. She says the conditions made it hard for rescuers to reach Rubbelke.

The accident happened in the 1000 block of Lookout Mountain Road.
