Wal-Mart recently reintroduced its Great Value private-label food brand to help take advantage of reduced consumer spending. It will sell nearly 100 new products such as ice cream and pizza.

At Kroger (King Soopers), corporate brands accounted for a record 35 percent of its fourth-quarter sales.

According to the Private Label Manufacturing Association, the average consumer can cut about 30 percent off the grocery bill by buying store brands.
