Southbound lanes of U.S. 285 near Turkey Creek Road southwest of Denver closed earlier today after a vehicle slammed into a fire truck that had responded to an earlier accident.

The crash involving the West Metro Fire Protection District engine happened at about 11:45 a.m., said fire department spokeswoman Cindy Matthews.

The engine was parked on the highway to cover for an ambulance responding to an accident when it was hit, Matthews said.

No firefighters were injured. Two people in the vehicle that hit the engine were injured, and medical helicopters were called to the scene.

More details will be released when they become available.
