DENVER — From the Qwest tower in downtown Denver to city buildings in Fort Collins, Colorado is joining the world in turning off lights for an hour Saturday night to save energy.
The annual hour-long observation of Earth Hour sees world monuments from the Sydney Opera House to the Great Pyramids go dark. The second annual spring observation is intended to promote energy conservation.
Participating buildings in Colorado include the state Capitol and municipal buildings in Boulder and Fort Collins. Citizens are urged to flip off their lights from 8:30 p.m to 9:30 p.m.
People worldwide have already observed the dark hour. Lights, appliances and computers have already been switched off in Hong Kong, New Zealand and at Scott Base in Antarctica.
