HOTCHKISS, Colo.—Investigators say a 91-year-old Hotchkiss man probably had a medical emergency of some kind that caused him to drive off the road and crash about a mile west of town.

The Colorado State Patrol says Emery White had just left a residence on the north side of Colorado 92 on Monday when he crossed the highway and went off the south side of the road.

Trooper Eric Carlton says White’s vehicle crashed into a ditch, then went through a fence and slammed into a tree.

White was pronounced dead at the scene, but the cause of death was not immediately known.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Hotchkiss is about 50 miles east-southeast of Grand Junction and 165 miles west-southwest of Denver.
